Optometrists from over 20 countries met in Chicago, USA, in June to discuss ways to develop the profession around the world at the World Council of Optometry’s (WCO) international conference.
The conference, Advancing Optometry Worldwide, offered a unique opportunity for professionals to attend a range of sessions that compared practice, challenges and successes from the developing and developed world.
Tone Garaas-Maurdalen, WCO President, said: said: “Advancing Optometry Worldwide was a great success for WCO; we were proud to offer a programme that featured lectures from world renowned speakers and an opportunity for delegates to visit the Illinois College of Optometry, one of the profession’s leading facilities.
“I am delighted that our delegates from all corners of the globe made new contacts and learnt some valuable lessons to take back to their own country.”

Our next General Delegates' Meeting will take place in Malaga, Spain, in April 2013.
The meeting will take place alongside events hosted by the European Academy of Optometry and Optics, the European Council of Optometry and Optics and the Spanish General Council of Optometry.
This will give professionals from around the world the opportunity to attend several exciting events in one city to network, share and learn from each other.
